I got lost and found some interesting blogs…

For this week’s blog we are supposed to surf the blogosphere and find a blog to evaluate.  Sounds easy enough, right?  Well, in my case, that would be a big fat wrong!  I actually got lost in the blogosphere searching for a blog to evaluate.  This was actually not very hard to do because there are many interesting blogs out there.  When using WordPress.com, a blogger can simply click on the “recommended blogs” link be taken to a place where one can choose from one of nineteen different categories to find blogs to follow. Let’s just say that I lost my Saturday morning sifting through the blogs listed here finding a few to follow, before I landed on one to evaluate for this weeks assignment.

I chose a blog from “A Pretty Penny”.  The page has a simple layout and was not overloaded with too much information on it to make it difficult to follow.  The tags the blog can be found under are Food + Drink, Health and Wellness, Recipes.  The blog itself is called “Quinoa Breakfast Bowls”.  There is a wonderful picture of a Quinoa Breakfast Bowl at the top of this blog.  The breakfast bowl definitely looks yummy!

I liked that the writer keeps her blog fairly simple. She talks about how she found quinoa breakfast bowls, what quinoa is and how prepares the quinoa in advance to save time when preparing the breakfast bowls.  There wasn’t really anything that I did not like about this particular blog.  What I learned from this blog is that an eye catching opening picture and a simple to the point blog can attract readers.  This is something I will try to incorporate into my own future blogs.

With all of this said, I am now going to go prepare some quinoa for breakfast bowls for the upcoming week.  I think I will try the quinoa with fruit (the bananas and strawberries look good), quinoa with Greek yogurt and quinoa with cinnamon.  I will add comments to this blog later in the week to let readers know how these breakfast bowls turned out.

Introduction to the world of blogging…

I would love to be sitting on the beach on this cold January day

I would love to be sitting on the beach on this cold January day

My name is Rebecca and this is just a little something to introduce myself to the blogosphere. I am a Public Relations & Strategic Communications major with a Journalism minor at St. Ambrose University. I chose this because of the endless possibilities of career options I will have upon graduating, however, I am not sure which direction I would like to take with my degree. Lately I have been trying to decide if I should complete my Masters degree right away or wait awhile before completing the degree.  I am not sure which is the best option for my future at this time, but I do know that I would like to pursue my Masters degree as well.  I will be blogging this semester for Communications 240: Introduction to Public Relations, and will be writing blogs weekly on various topics as assigned.  I am new to blogging and am a little nervous to begin this process, but I am confident that once I figure out what I am doing, I will have no problems.  When I am not attending classes, studying, or blogging, I enjoy running, shopping, and a glass of red wine with a good book.  I also enjoy spending time with my daughter and the two of us are currently planning our summer vacation.  Not sure where we are headed for sure, but it will definitely be south of the Quad Cities.  I would like to volunteer with the New Kingdom Trailriders this spring, but I’m not sure I will have the available hours to commit to the organization.  I am not a fan of Midwest winters and after graduation I hope to move somewhere warm and sunny. Please leave me feedback, as I would love to hear your views on my blogs.
